The 30th anniversary Sapporo Handcraft Festival featured Masako's quilts

The 30th anniversary Sapporo Handcraft Festival took place on the 10th and 11th of October. (website)

Masako was invited to exhibit more than ten of her quilts, which was the main feature of the event. 

We brought some furniture from Tokyo which we set up and decorated as a living room and bedroom in the exhibit area.

As many of you know, October is the pink ribbon month when people organize events to raise awareness of breast cancer.
A main feature of these events is to point out the importance of doing a regular breast exam.

Masako has known the gynecologist, Dr. Yuko Inoue, for many years and gave a talk with her. 

The one who can help protect you from breast cancer is not a doctor, your family or your friends, but only you.

Pink Ribbon Campaign

Weaving baskets using strips of recycled paper

This is the 2nd day of the show "Pink Ribbon Campaign" at the Nihombashi Takashimaya department store.
I would like to introduce the 2nd artist to you today.

We call it "Eco Craft", as I assume it comes from using strips of recycled paper, is very popular in Japan.

Akemi Furuki is one of well known Eco Craft artists and has published some books so far.

It is eco-friendly and pretty carrying around:-)

Eggshell Sculptures and Carvings

CRIB QUILT participates in an event held at Nihonbashi Takashimaya department store, which is for raising an awareness of breast cancer and called "Pink Ribbon Campaign, Exhibition of 5 artists". Masako is one of them!
It has just started today till 18th (Tue).

Today I would like to introduce one of artists, Yasuko Inoue who does Eggshell Sculptures and Carvings.

Please look at those intricate and exquisite works. She uses different eggs like a Japanese Quail and Ostrich.

Tomorrow she will give a workshop in the morning and afternoon at the department store. Here is a sample.

Pink ribbon meeting at Kaminoge

I will participate in a pink ribbon event which occurs at the Nihombashi Takashimaya department store in the middle of October, where 5 artists including me will show and sell each work as a charity.

We had the first meeting yesterday.

We also had our film taken, which will play at the event!
I got so nervous!

Pink ribbon activity in Kyoto

Kaoru who always supports my activity, and her friends got together for sewing hexagonal pieces to make our 3rd pink ribbon quilt.

We plan to exhibit the finished quilt at a pink ribbon event in November and it will go to an organization called " Wing Kyoto" later.

We had a space for the pink ribbon activity that we have worked on for 5-6 years.
On the first day Dr.Inoue came visit us to give a talk to visitors , which was about how important to take a check-up on a regular basis was.

Masako asked her students to make tapestries for making a donation.

The total amount was 133471 yen which all go to the pink ribbon activity and Dr. Inoue.

We went seeing our gynecologist called Dr. Inoue whom we have known for many years through the pink ribbon activity that we work on.
After the checkup ( mammography and ultrasonic echo), we asked Dr.Inoue to give a little talk at our upcoming exhibition. We will announce it more later.
The number of people carrying a breast cancer is increasing. It is the best way to find out at an early stage. That's why a check up on a regular basis is very important!
