At Yoko's quilt shop

As one of annual events, we visited Ishinomaki to give a lesson at Yoko's quilt shop, NASA, at the end of November.

Once we opened its door, students and wonderful homemade meals, were waiting for us to arrive!

After having lunch with all of them (time quickly passed by chatting!), we began the lesson to make a pouch!

We have to introduce this adorable girl to you :-)
She is a granddaughter of one of the students and one and 3 months old. Her name is Mei.

She could play by herself with some pictures books and toys ... but her favorite was my smart phone. She seemed to know how to use it already!

Many of the students could finish the top of the pouch and looked happy to take them home.
Some of them still live in a temporary house as they lost their houses because of tsunami.
A town looked like getting back to normal, but they still have a lot of issues which are unsolved yet. Most importantly we should not forget about the tsunami and them.

New Class in Kuramae

We have started our monthly class in Kuramae which is close to Asakusa as known as the one of popular places for international tourists.

We had arrived there earlier than it began, we went to a sushi restaurant in the neighbourhood where we could see the world's tallest free-standing broadcasting tower, "Tokyo Sky Tree" that opened some months ago.

Look at sushi on a plate!

It's unnecessary to mention that it tasted good, as you can tell by seeing the photo!

After lunch, a class began at 1pm.

They are relatively newer than the other students in Kawasaki, but they decided to make a quilt for our upcoming quilt show in Spring. Looking forward to seeing the finished ones!

One of my treasures

Here is one of my treasures.

Originally it was painted by Tasha Tudor, but mine is a lithograph with her autograph.

The next upcoming Tokyo Dome Show features Tasha Tudor who is very popular in Japan.
Have you ever heard of her? If you wish to know more about her, please visit this lovely website. ( here )

The Tokyo Dome Show is just around the corner. We are now busy to prepare things for it.
New kits will come out so please don't miss them out!

Just in case I paste its website here, too.

Wonderful workshop in Houston

We returned home from Houston last Friday.
The two main reasons to go there were to place orders for fabrics and give a workshop.

Maggie who leads a group called "Silk Experience" and had invited us to give a workshop, took us to the Educational office to register on October 31st.
There were many volunteers who helped organize things about workshops.

It had been the 3rd year for us to teach there, but we had been worried if we could work it out.

Even the day before, we discussed it over lunch!

Finally it began at 9 am!
Maggie talked a little about her group then introduced me to everyone.

Once it had started, I was getting to feel less pressured.

We did punchneedle in the morning and double eye needle embroidery in the afternoon.
The owner of Igolochkoy (Punchneedle) , Gail was there with us all day, which was a big help!

Since most of them had never tried either of Punchneedle and a double eye needle, we went to every table to see how they were doing.

The students were amazing! They were quick to get how to do both!
Thank you for coming :-)

Journey to Europe 2: Lea Stansal

On September 9th, after checking L'aiguille en fete PRO we went seeing an exhibition of an amazing artist, Lea Stansal with our friend, Claire.

Her style is very distinctive. The bold combination of colors, threads and fabrics catches our eyes.

When we were invited to exhibit Masako's quilts at a quilt show in Wilverwiltz, Luxembourg, Britta who was a German artist and exhibited her works just in front of us said, "There was a wonderful book sold at Marylene's booth. I'm sure you will like it, so please check it out!".

This is how we knew Lea's books.

Marylene and Claire were Lea's students and let us know about the exhibition before leaving Japan.

The theme was "BOX".  Different kinds of boxes were displayed on the beautifully complicated wooden 3D structures.
It might be boring just to lay boxes in line. But this display showed us boxes at different angles.

This is her new book where all boxes are shown.

Can you see a sticker where numbers are written down in the picture?
The first number,12 means 2012 and she numbered each box.
Why do you think she did it? Because the boxes were available!

Unfortunately the one I wished to have was her favorite and unavailable.

She is slightly older, but more energetic than me! I am learning a lot from her!
